A “station”, in the context of laser scanning, is a term derived from topography which defines the location (coordinates) of the device (3D scanner) during a period for the acquisition of measurements. The surveying device must be positioned at a number of locations in a given site, if the entire site is to be digitized. In practice, a scanner can only survey what it can see; multiple scanning locations will therefore be required, if the exhaustiveness of a laser scan is to be guaranteed.
